It's not so ridiculous because trucks purchased for business is a capital investment and used to help the company produce revenue. Sure some people abuse the system. But that goes for every segment of the economy. Just look at what happened with those $2000 gift cards given out after Katrina.
I think this tax break seems to have been written for large truck drivers. They usually start their own business and are contracted to haul freight.
I find it strange that the weight is used as a dividing line. I think it should just be a percentage of the cost of the vehicle, no matter what the weight.
Corporate profit being favored over the conservation of scare natural resources and environmental protection? Still ridiculous in my opinion.
